Get Up and Move
Yes. Get up and move!
Is it really important to exercise?
What type of exercise is right for me?
How much exercise is should I engage in?
Why should we exercise?
Strictly from a medical point of view there is a saying that if you don't use you will lose it. Exercise and movement help the body to function. Oxygen is vital to the life of every cell in your body. If you don't get up and move, raise your heart rate, and your oxygen levels, you will most likely succumb to illness and disease.
What type of exercise should I engage in?
The best overall and least expensive exercise is walking. The most effective results come from walking for 30 minutes everyday. The most common complaint is that some don't have 30 minutes to walk. My get up and move strategy is this. Walk 10 minutes three times a day. You have control over exercise just like you have control over what you eat. Get up and move. Start today to bring about positive change to your life.
It seems that there is no end to the variety of forms of exercise and equipment to match. I have my personal favorites. First is dancing. Put on the cd or mp3 of your choice and just get up and move.
I absolutely love the hula and there are some great hula cardio workout dvd's available. These are my two favorites.

Pilates is also a great way to get up and move. The program focuses on the core postural muscles that help keep the body balanced and are essential to providing support for the spine. In particular, Pilates exercises teach awareness of breath and alignment of the spine, and strengthen the deep torso muscles, which are important to help alleviate and prevent back pain.
There are two ways to exercise in pilates. Today, most people focus on the mat exercises, which require only a floor mat and training. These exercises are designed so that your body uses its own weight as resistance. The other method of pilates uses a variety of machines to tone and strengthen the body, again using the principle of resistance. I think you will enjoy the Pilates DVD highlighted here to help you get up and move.

You may enjoy strength training at a gym or health club. I use strength training along with walking and cardio workout. Alternate the cardio workout and strength training on different days, to achieve maximum benefits.
Please note: Before you begin any exercise program check with your health care provider.
