Essential Oils verses Colds and Flu

Posted On 2007-12-29 , 9:46 AM

I recently taught a class at a local health food store.

The question I was asked most often…

“What are the top essential oils you recommend to protect us from colds and flu.”

One attendee wanted to know “Which essential oil would be my first choice.”

I have over 150 essential oils in my home, so this was a bit of a challenge.

Here is the answer to the first question.

My top five list.

  • Lavender. Great all purpose oil, helps to calm and relax.
  • Eucalyptus. Respiratory support.
  • Oregano or Thyme. Antiviral oils provide protection.
  • Tea Tree. Antiviral and respiratory support.
  • Peppermint. Digestive and respiratory support.

The answer to which single essential oil I would use…

Oregano… (must use with caution.)  It stimulates and helps protect the immune system, and is supportive to the respiratory and digestive systems.  Oregano has been studied extensively for its effects on numerous viruses and bacteria.
